On 29–30 September 2025, a high-level workshop will take place in Bari, exploring the role of the Mediterranean Diet as a key driver for sustainable tourism and regional growth in the Adriatic-Ionian area. This event is being held under the EUSAIR Presidency of North Macedonia and is co-organized by CIHEAM Bari, DG REGIO, EGP, and the Coordinators of EUSAIR Pillars I, IV, and V, in collaboration with DG AGRI, DG MARE, and DG GROW/DG MOVE.
The two-day gathering, titled “Sustainable and Innovative Food Systems: The Mediterranean Diet as a Tool for Tourism and Local Development in EUSAIR Communities,” builds on insights from the 10th EUSAIR Annual Forum. Its goal is to elevate the Mediterranean Diet as a flagship initiative aligned with the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy, and regional Smart Specialisation agendas.
Attendees will participate in high-level panels and targeted workshops focusing on the following themes:
- Agrotourism, ecotourism, and bio-districts
- Organic, regional, and high-quality local food systems
- Youth engagement, skill-building, and digital innovation in the food and tourism industries
The workshop will conclude with a set of refined proposals for advancing the Mediterranean Diet Flagship, and participants will have the option to visit a local Bio-district as part of the programme.
